Brocks Haulage builds on ‘image boosting’ IVECO order with the UK’s first Stralis X-Way 6×4 tractor unit
Thursday 20th June 2019
Bulk excavation specialist Brocks Haulage has reaffirmed its trust in the IVECO brand after taking delivery of the first 44-tonne Stralis X-Way 6×4 tractor unit to arrive in the UK, supplied by local dealer Acorn Trucks in West Thurrock.
The Purfleet-based business ordered the double-drive IVECO tractor after being impressed with the addition of 10 new Stralis X-Way 8×4 tippers to its fleet at the start of 2019 - the company's first IVECOs.
The Stralis X-Way (AT440X48TZ/P OFF) - showcased on the IVECO stand at Tip-ex 2019 before its delivery to Essex - will give Brocks Haulage a prime mover which combines excellent fuel efficiency and safety technologies with the comfort of the road-going Stralis cab.
Anthony Brown, Operations Director at Brocks Haulage, says: 'We have had good feedback from the drivers on the IVECO tippers; they've attracted a lot of attention and boosted the company image a lot in recent months.
'We've always required 6×4 tractors for our landfill work, but previously they've been sourced from other manufacturers. This time we were attracted to the IVECO unit based on our experiences with the Stralis X-Way rigids; we were keen to try something different and trusted IVECO and Acorn Trucks to deliver.'
The Stralis X-Way double-drive tractor is designed by IVECO to give operators the confidence to tackle 'final mile' deliveries onto construction sites with ease, while ensuring high productivity, safety and excellent total cost of ownership (TCO).
Its robust chassis is ideal for Brocks Haulage's heavy-duty work - which sees the vehicle frequently operating at maximum gross vehicle weight, delivering onto landfill and construction sites. The Essex firm has selected IVECO's'OFF' chassis setup, to give the vehicle ability to take on terrain with an approach angle greater than 25 degrees, guaranteeing the best performance when collecting and delivering off-road. Alongside ON and ON+, it is one of three chassis setups available across the Stralis X-Way range, which benefits from lower maintenance and repair costs than dedicated off-road vehicles.
Powered by IVECO's proven 11.1-litre Cursor 11 engine delivering 480hp and 2,300Nm of torque, the truck has been fitted with a wet kit for operating Brocks Haulage's ejector and walking floor trailers. It also features an optional low-level passenger door window, which provides direct visibility for the driver of pedestrians and other road users - designed to reduce the risk of a collision.
In addition to waste haulage work from transfer stations to recycling depots around the southeast, the family-run business will also use the tractor for low loader work, moving a wide variety of plant equipment ranging from mini-diggers to 35-tonne excavators.
