New Daily Natural Power launch key to sustainable mobility, says Iveco

Iveco is marking its 20th anniversary of manufacturing natural gas-powered commercial vehicles with the official launch of its New Daily Natural Power range at the CV Show.
Martin Flach, Product Director at Iveco UK, explains: “Natural gas is still the most effective and immediately available technology for solving problems related to air quality in urban areas. It’s why we continue to invest in developing the technology and have homologated it for our latest generation New Daily, reinforcing our unprecedented experience and belief in natural gas as a ‘clean’ fuel.”
Natural gas offers exhaust emission CO2levels which are 10 per cent lower compared to diesel, with particulate matter reduced by 95 per cent and NOx 35 per cent lower.
“From an economic standpoint for customers, natural gas costs around 25 per cent less than diesel, even at today’s pump prices, which in turn significantly reduces the total cost of ownership of gas-powered vehicles,” he adds.
Iveco is marking the launch with the display of a New Daily 35S14G on its stand – the first of the latest generation New Daily range to be built with a gas-powered engine specifically for the UK market. It can operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), or compressed bio-methane (CBM).
New Daily Natural Power models are ideally suited to firms seeking to reduce their environmental impact, whilst benefiting from a proven alternative fuel technology. Now with Euro VI certification, New Daily Natural Power models are particularly well suited for urban operators which have to work within Low Emission Zones, whilst the reduction in operating noise of 5 dB(A) compared with its diesel equivalent gives fleets greater flexibility for night-time and early morning deliveries.
New Dailys running on CNG or CBM offer the same performance as a diesel engine, plus they are able to access underground parking areas and travel on ferries, without the limitations affecting some other alternative fuels.
Operators can select from many New Daily Natural Power models, starting from 3.5 tonne van and chassis cabs with single or twin rear-wheels up to the 7 tonne van and 7.2 tonne chassis cabs.
As with the previous generation of CNG / CBM-powered Daily, New Daily Natural Power models are fitted with a small petrol tank reserve, allowing an additional range of up to 50 miles in a de-rated engine mode, in the event of running out of gas. The vehicle range, whilst operating on natural gas, can vary between models, with extended range tanks available for longer wheelbase vehicles to allow a range of more than 200 miles.
New Daily Natural Power models are powered by a 3.0 litre engine producing up to 136 hp, with a maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,500 and 2,730 rev/min.
Since Iveco manufactured its first Natural Power vehicle in 1995, it has gone on to deliver more than 13,000 light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, and Iveco Buses, into service in Europe, including more than 2,000 vehicles in 2013 alone.
