Iveco provides Transmec with 'new generation' not regeneration technology
Wednesday 16th September 2015
Transmec Group has added nine new Iveco Stralis Hi-Way 6x2 twin-steer tractor units to its UK operation. The Italian-owned logistics company has a long-standing relationship with Iveco and runs a 100 per cent Iveco fleet in the UK.
Transmec UK General Manager John Simkins says: “Our Iveco trucks have always delivered excellent performance. The new vehicles feature Iveco’s latest technology in terms of performance and fuel economy, and we are looking forward to the benefits these will bring to our business – and more importantly – our customers.”
The new Stralis Hi-Way AS440S48TX/P tractor units operate from Transmec’s Bradford depot and are fitted with 11 litre Cursor 11 engines, which produce 480 hp between 1,500 and 1,900 rev/min, and up to 2,250 Nm of torque between 950 and 1,500 rev/min.
Incorporating Iveco’s industry-leading HI-SCR technology, the Stralis trucks meet the stringent Euro VI emissions limits without the need for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or the resulting regeneration process commonly required – meaning increased productivity as HI-SCR requires neither driver involvement nor downtime from active regeneration. This optimises the energy efficiency of Iveco’s Euro VI technology as no fuel is utilised to burn particulates and no energy is lost to cool down exhaust gases, whilst there is also no risk of damage to the road surface nor application restrictions.
Transmec’s new Stralis Hi-Ways also feature Iveco’s ‘Fuel Efficiency Package’, which further reduces operating costs. The new technology includes Iveco’s Eco-Roll function – an advanced system which allows the Stralis to use inertia to its advantage when travelling on gentle downhill slopes. When the cruise control is active, the system evaluates the incline and effectively puts the vehicle in neutral. At the end of the slope, the system selects the optimal gear and re-establishes normal vehicle operation. The function is also automatically disengaged as soon as the driver pushes either the brake or accelerator pedal, or manually changes gear.
The Fuel Efficiency Package also features a new engine oil management system which reduces energy absorption by the oil pump and ensures faster warming up of the engine. Coupled with this is an initial fill of OW-20 low viscosity engine oil – a new synthetic lubricant which is specifically designed to release low volumes of sulphated ash at high temperatures, protecting both the engine and diesel particulate filter.
The arrival of the distinctive blue and yellow-liveried vehicles comes shortly after the delivery of eight new Stralis trucks in late 2014. Supplied by Iveco dealer Guest Truck & Van on a three year contract hire and maintenance agreement, the new Stralis Hi-Ways will operate nationally.
Transmec works across the automotive, fashion, furniture, hi-tech, industrial and grocery sectors and runs a 24/7 operation across the UK.
