Brian Yeardley Continental has added a top-spec Iveco Stralis Hi-Way to its fleet, fine-tuned for long-distance operations into mainland Europe. The 500hp 4x2 low ride height tractor unit is being evaluated against other marques ahead of the company announcing its fleet orders for 2015.
Supplied by Hull-based North East Truck & Van (NETV), the Stralis Hi-Way AS440S50TF/P-LT has been supplied with a five year Iveco Elements repair and maintenance (R&M) contract with full European cover. The vehicle will trunk to destinations in Italy and Spain carrying predominantly chemicals outbound and white goods inbound.
Kevin Hopper, Managing Director of Brian Yeardley Continental, says: “NETV approached us to try the Stralis Hi-Way and we went for it. The specification looked good on paper, the price was right and the R&M package was competitive too. Now the truck’s actually here, it looks even better in our colours than I’d imagined and we are looking forward to seeing how it performs.
“The driver absolutely loves the Hi-Way cab. He had one of the first Stralis’ we bought back in 2003 and he’s in Italy regularly so is used to seeing a lot of Ivecos on the road. He was eager to get his hands on the keys!”
Like all new vehicles in the Brian Yeardley Continental fleet, the Stralis was ordered in left-hand-drive configuration and with a comprehensive specification to ensure its drivers have every comfort on the road. This includes a low-noise, low-energy consumption air conditioning unit built into the cab roof, which ensures a comfortable cab temperature even with the engine off, together with twin bunks in a configuration which allows the bottom bunk to fold-down into a versatile table.
Other features include an air-suspended passenger seat with swivel function, cruise-control, hands-free Bluetooth telephone preparation, slide-out fridge freezer and an Iveconnect touch-screen display mounted on the dashboard featuring European satellite navigation with truck-specific functions. The truck is also supplied with alloy wheels, optional 1,200 litre long-range fuel tanks, Dynafleet telematics, Michelin Energy fuel-saving tyres and a lane departure warning system for maximum safety.
Also central to the specification is Iveco’s Driving Style Evaluation tool, enabling the driver to optimise his driving performance in real time and, as a result, improve fuel efficiency. Iveco says this system can help to generate fuel savings of between 5 per cent and 12 per cent when used to maximum effect.
Power is provided by a 12.88 litre FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engine meeting EEV emissions standards. It is capable of producing up to 500 hp between 1,525 and 1,900 rev/min and 2,300 Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,525 rev/min, driven through a 12-speed automated EuroTronic gearbox, manufactured by ZF.
The Iveco Elements deal includes full European cover, together with collection and delivery from Brian Yeardley Continental’s base in Featherstone, West Yorkshire, to NETV’s dealership in Hull for preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing.
