IVECO TRAKKER COMPETES AS THE TOUGHEST TRUCK AT THE CV SHOW
Tuesday 29th April 2014
Iveco’s new Euro VI Trakker on/off road heavy truck is making its CV Show debut alongside its rally-spec big brother, fresh from a top 10 placing in the gruelling Dakar 2014 in South America.
This year’s event spanned three countries and covered 10,000 km across some of the harshest terrain on Earth, including the Atacama Desert – a place that didn’t see a drop of rain for 400 years and is so arid and inhospitable that it’s used by NASA to plan missions to Mars.
Martin Flach, Product Director of Iveco, says: “We use this challenging proving ground as the ultimate test to confirm the robustness of our vehicles – it allows us to put each individual component under extreme stress. This year we proved once again that the Dakar Rally can be defeated; each of the four Ivecos which started the most gruelling race on Earth made the finishing line, including three in the top 10.”
The Trakker Evolution 3 on display rides on huge Michelin 14.00 R20 XZL+ tyres, designed for extreme civil and military use, and was piloted by rally legend Hans Stacey to the finishing line. It powered its way through the harsh conditions thanks to its Cursor 13 engine which produces 900 hp and a peak torque of 1,100 Nm at 3,800 rev/min. This proved the perfect blend of high power, rapid load response, maximum robustness and reliability – exactly what’s needed for surviving the Andes.
Trakker Hi-Track 8x4
The production model Trakker AT340T41 is on display in matching Dakar Green paintwork and features the popular Hi-Track low roof sleeper cab. It is built to tackle construction sites, quarries and off-road missions, with its latest generation cab using high quality materials with top-quality plastics and anti-scratch treatments.
Like the two Stralis’ on display, the Trakker on display is also equipped with the high-tech Iveconnect system, which allows drivers to easily manage infotainment, navigation, driving support tools and advanced fleet management services from a single screen.
Externally the cab styling is characterised by a distinctive grille and stylish light assemblies which are protected against collision. The bumper also incorporates a platform which, together with two handles integrated into the front grille, facilitates easy cleaning of the windscreen. Plus, new at Euro VI, an oil dipstick checker and oil filler have been conveniently located under the front grill for ease of maintenance.
It stands out for being the first time Iveco has exhibited a Euro VI model Trakker at any UK exhibition, allowing visitors to see FPT Industrial’s high efficiency selective catalytic reduction engine technology, called HI-eSCR, which offers multiple benefits to construction fleets. These include weight reduction, optimised fuel consumption and increased durability thanks to a less complex, yet highly efficient, technology which meets the new emissions limits via a simplified after-treatment system and without the use of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation).
The Cursor 13 engine produces 410 hp between 1,400 and 1,900 rev/min and a massive 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,400 rev/min. The ZF 12-speed EuroTronic gearbox can be driven in semi-automatic or fully automated mode to best suit the terrain, and features a gear selector built into the steering column stalk, for maximum driving ease.
