Maidstone Borough Council elects new IVECO eDaily beavertails

Maidstone Borough Council has deployed two new all-electric IVECO eDaily [42C14e] beavertails to its fleet, servicing the local authority’s Environmental Services section, who are responsible for maintaining the borough’s grounds and greens. With a two-battery configuration, providing up to 124 miles of range and 140hp, the 4.25t eDaily delivers a perfect combination of payload and range. Since they were integrated into the fleet, the council reports that over 2,000kg of CO2 has been prevented from entering the atmosphere. The beavertail bodies were supplied by AFKS Specialist Vehicles Engineering, who worked closely with Haynes Truck and Van and Maidstone Borough Council to fine tune the vehicle for their missions.

The anti-slip beavertail load surface on the eDaily chassis is sprung, allowing for safer loading and unloading of ride-on lawnmowers as the council maintains parks, public areas, and roadside verges. Secure tool pods behind the eDaily’s cab enables drivers to safely store tools and spare fuel for the mowers. At the rear of the van, narrow rear lights are housed on the chassis frame, which protects them from damage.

The eDaily duo are equipped with automatic headlights and wipers, as well as heated electric mirrors for cold and dark early mornings, ensuring the driver is prepared for all seasons. A suspended seat, inspired by IVECO’s truck range, helps reduce driver fatigue.

The vehicles were supplied by Haynes Trucks Ltd, who are also providing the Council with a number of eDaily caged tippers over the coming months. Each vehicle comes with IVECO’s eight-year or 155,000-mile battery warranty, alongside a 6-year extended warranty, providing the ultimate peace of mind.

Cllr Clive English, MBC Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Enforcement at Maidstone Borough Council, said: “Like many councils around the country, Maidstone Borough Council is exploring ways to reduce its carbon emissions across various sectors – especially those that involve transport and vehicles. These new IVECO eDaily have exceeded all expectations and have allowed us to continue providing services to our community with lower carbon emissions than ever before.”

Mike Cutts, Business Line Director Full Range UK & ROI at IVECO, said: “The IVECO eDaily has been meticulously perfected since its inception to deliver a performance that rivals its diesel counterpart. It’s great to see these vehicles delivering a zero-emission solution without compromise for Maidstone Borough Council.”
