Sustainable ETRC 2021: IVECO contributes towards a virtually carbon neutral championship with an IVECO S-WAY NP pace truck
Tuesday 15th June 2021
The European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) and IVECO have extended their longstanding partnership until the end of the 2023 season. IVECO will be the official partner of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship for the next three seasons, starting with the first race of this year at the Hungaroring (Hungary) on 12 and 13 June 2021.
A key element of the partnership is that IVECO will be the exclusive supplier of the pace truck, an IVECO S-WAY NP, for all the races in the next three seasons, becoming the first ever environmentally-friendly pace truck featuring alternative traction in an ETRC event.
Thomas Hilse, IVECO Brand President, commented: “The future of truck racing is without doubt to achieve zero emissions, and the IVECO S-WAY NP pace truck brings that ambition a step closer. The eyecatching graphic design and fittings on the pace truck, created by CNH Industrial’s Design Center, with official fittings available from the IVECO Accessories Catalogue, means that any driver can design their own great truck”.
IVECO will be taking part again in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship as technical sponsor of the “Die Bullen von IVECO”, the partnership between the Hahn Racing and Schwabentruck teams. German driver Steffi Halm will return as team leader of the Schwabentruck team. The only woman competing in the Championship, she hopes to improve on last year’s positions and fulfil her ambition to succeed in dominating the championship on her IVECO S-WAY.
Team Hahn will be represented by the six-time European champion Jochen Hahn, who dominated the 2019 edition behind the wheel of his IVECO Stralis truck. The teams are looking forward to competing in the first round at the Hungaroring (Hungary).
IVECO will also be represented by two more teams: Reinert Racing and Don’t Touch Racing.
IVECO S-WAY NP as the ETRC pace truck
The pace truck is the vehicle that leads the pack during the formation lap until the flying start. It is also used to slow down the race in the event of potentially dangerous situations, such as after an accident or in extremely adverse weather conditions. It has an important role in ensuring the safety of the drivers.
The pace truck is a standard IVECO S-WAY NP in the 4x2 LNG version, equipped with two 540-litre tanks that hold at least 390kg of liquid bio-LNG. This gives the truck a range of up to 1,600 kilometres and significantly reduces of nitrogen dioxide emissions in comparison with a diesel truck, as well as producing 95 percent less CO2 emissions with bio-LNG.
With its elaborate airbrush finish, the pace truck looks the part. Several custom parts complete the look: They include the two yellow rotating beacons, a light bar with LED headlights, an illuminated three-piece bull bar and various LED flashers.
