It's a (very stylish) put-up job for PapaKatas new 7 tonne Daily

A new 7 tonne Iveco Daily is helping Yorkshirebased PapaKåta to carry larger loads when transporting its modular Kåtas – teepee style tents pioneered by the Sami people of Lapland. The company hires out these stylish structures for events including weddings, festivals, parties, corporate events and product launches. PapaKåta had previously relied on its fleet of 3.5 tonne panel vans and 4x4s operating with trailers, but found it was reaching the critical point of needing to transport larger loads in a single vehicle, as the company has continued to grow.

The company’s new Daily 70C18, its first ever Iveco, features a crew cab which can transport a team up to seven – ideal for a business which is endeavouring to be carbon neutral, allowing the maximum number of staff to travel to the site, with equipment, in a single vehicle. The chassis has been mounted with a bespoke curtainside body manufactured by MartinWilliams of Hull, making it ideal for transporting the teepees and function materials, such as staging, tables and chairs.

Richard Monaghan, joint Director of PapaKåta with his wife Amanda, says: “The majority of our work is within about three hours’ drive of Yorkshire, but our expertise with teepees mean we can be booked for jobs across the UK and Ireland. The Daily gives us a versatile vehicle for eating up motorway mileage, plus with the manoeuvrability to position the vehicle precisely once
we arrive on site.”
Supplied by North East Truck & Van, the Daily has been specified with a locking differential to aid traction when it leaves the tarmac – a common requirement when PapaKåta is setting-up and de-rigging for functions. This crew cab model provides over 4.4 tonnes of body and payload capacity, which is testament to the Daily’s truck derived heritage.The Daily 70C18 is powered by a 3.0 litre diesel engine that is capable of producing 176 hp between 3,200 and 3,500 rev/min and up to 400 Nm of torque between 1,250 and 3,000 rev/min, driven through a six speed manual gearbox. The flexibility of this engine is illustrated by the constant maximum torque over a wide range and available from the lowest engine speed, meaning it is comfortable in heavy traffic and responds quickly to rapid acceleration.

Like all 7.0 tonne Daily and ECODAILY models, this vehicle features a driver’s airbag, central locking, electric windows, all-round disc brakes and the latest generation Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard equipment, which guarantees shorter braking distances and reduces the risk of skidding. This state-of-the-art safety package integrates all of the vehicle’s safety functions including Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Anti Slip Regulator (ASR), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and Hill Holder, which provides assistance to the driver by stopping a vehicle rolling back when pulling away on an incline.PapaKåta expects its new Daily to remain on the fleet for at least five years and to cover between 20,000 and 30,000 miles a year.
